The sowing technology for small-seeded oil crops (SSOC) imposes high requirements on the design of seed metering devices and their operating modes. Currently, mechanical seed metering devices are the most widely used in agriculture. Among them, reel seed metering devices (RSMD) occupy a special place. Their main advantages include technological simplicity of manufacturing, high reliability, and low cost. However, RSMDs also have significant disadvantages, which include instability of the overall seeding rate, increased seed damage, and unevenness of seed distribution (USD) along the row length. To minimize these disadvantages, continuous research and design developments are being carried out aimed at improving RSMDs. In this regard, this paper provides a description of the design scheme of the RSMD. In KOMPAS-3D, 2D drawings and 3D models of experimental samples of washers with pyramidal profile teeth (PPT) No. 1-3 for the RSMD have been developed. Using a 3D printer, washers with PPT No. 1-3 were manufactured. Laboratory studies of the experimental samples of washers with PPT No. 1-3 were conducted. The results of laboratory studies are presented to evaluate the effect of the PPT washer type of the reel seed metering device on the unevenness of SSOC seed distribution along the row length.
Keywords: reel seed metering device, row length, pyramidal profile teeth.
